About COLLOID

Taking its title from Richard Barrett’s 10-string guitar piece, in 2022 I released an album containing what I believe to be some of the most challenging music written for guitar, at least in my opinion, with music by Brian Ferneyhough, Ray Evanoff, Wieland Hoban, Klaus K. Hübler and Richard Barrett.

“This is no composer-portrait album, none of the pieces were written for me, all of them have already been performed several times by several performers, some of them have already been recorded more than once. But it is in the conjunction of these works and my playing that I found a possibility of creating a mode of listening, a mode of creating meaning out of disparate elements, disparate pieces each with its own sound world. The self-similarity, the long, the short, the rip, the tear off, the unbroken flux are all present here and mix with each other without ever dissolving.

If it makes any sense, it was my wish that the album’s content would focus not only on every piece’s detail and every detail’s detail but also that it wouldn’t overlook the whole.” – MG.
